Dominic Jefferson IS-500
As a young child, my first language was Navajo (Dine). It was our everyday language to communicate with people around us at home and in the community. There were very few people that spoke English. The Navajo language was the primary language amongst our people. As far as I remember, my parents and grandparents all spoke the Navajo language. Navajo language was all oral; there was very few written material available. In the 50’s the Navajo language was just beginning to be translated and written in Navajo Bible and songs by the missionaries. - Grandma Sadie Jefferson
